Nothing is eternal.

And yet, some things come remarkably close.

For more than seventeen years, my Hilleberg Nammatj 3 has been my shelter, my refuge, my home in places where failure is not an option. Time – UV, wind, snow, dust, altitude – has finally done what storms never could. The fabric has thinned, softened, and now tears gently to threads. This is not a sudden loss, but a long, honorable fade.

Before that moment arrived, she lived fully.

She kept me dry under relentless rain and wet April snow on Oscar II Land, Svalbard.

She stood calm and steady through countless journeys in the mountains of North America, Alps, Andes.

She held firm in 90 km/h (56 mph) winds on 6000 m (19,685) high camp on Aconcagua, while tents around her were lifted and scattered.

She once stood between me and a brutal dust storm in the Atacama Desert, sealing me off from wind and grit when the world outside turned opaque.

Snow, rain, long nights and polar day – she never once asked me to compromise.

For seventeen years, she was not gear.

She was the home. She was the companion.

Inside her, a small stitched label carries a name: Katrin Sootna.

Katrin – thank you. You once sat at a sewing machine and built this shelter with care, skill, and intention. That care endured for nearly two decades in some of the harshest places I know.

I love this tent. I truly do.

On the picture she is in her final camp, two weeks ago, at 4000 m on Volcán San José. Still standing. Still offering protection. Still doing her job – even as time finally claimed its share.

She has earned her place in history – and perhaps a worthy successor.

So what have you just read?

A requiem or an ode? May be both.

Here is a heartfelt thank you from me and my dog Freja, who used your Nallo 3 GT during our Vita Bandet (White Ribbon) trip in 2025. I am incredibly happy with the tent and found it to be spacious, stable, and safe in every way. Perfect for one person and a dog.

In 2022, I did the same through-hike in the summertime and dreamt about doing it in the winter and seeing the same places covered with snow. I also dreamt about doing a longer winter trip with my dog since she loves colder temperatures and snow. I also find longer hikes (no matter the season) special because after a while you find almost a meditative state of mind – your thoughts begin to clear up and (almost) everything falls into place. In everyday life I feel like so much is going on all the time that you have to fight for your time in stillness. When I skied the White Ribbon, a 1300 km (808 mi) through-hike along the Swedish mountain range, I almost constantly found myself in stillness, even when I struggled mentally and/or physically. That was also a great motivation for me to do it. 

I chose the Hilleberg Nallo 3 GT tent because I had contact with other White Ribboners before I started my trip. I also tried it out a couple of winter trips before I chose to go with it. I love the tent since it's easy to pitch, has a lot of space for me and my dog – and most important of all – a really big outer tent which made it possible for me to store my pulk and everything else I needed inside the tent. It also provided space for my outdoor kitchen for melting snow while cooking. I never felt insecure inside the tent if it was stormy outside. If I pitched it in the right direction considering the wind, I always felt safe. On my trip the weather was quite unpredictable, and I experienced everything from sunny days and starry, cold nights to rain, heavy winds and whiteout. The tent performed in all those conditions and made the trip possible.

Hi Petra,

I just wanted to say a big thank you for the quality of your tents and the ripstop nylon. I have a 20-year-old Hilleberg Akto which I have used all over the world for 70 plus nights on wild camping adventures – at least ten years of different National park visits to America. The Akto is still as good as the day I bought it and I look after it well. I love the tent.

Last week on a trip to the Cascade mountains in Washington I had a visit by a black bear in the middle of the night that tried to force its way into my tent. Terrifying was an understatement, and I don’t scare that easily as a retired cop. The ripstop nylon held its force as the whole tent shook and its head was inches from my face – I just wanted to say thank you for such a quality product. It probably saved my life.

Keep up the fine work as a company – four season quality is worth its weight in gold. Your tents are awesome.

Tony and I fell in love with cycle touring ten years ago. Our first tent was a Nallo 3 GT, which we used for our first 3-week-long tours in Europe during our holidays. When Tony took early retirement, I stopped work too and we started touring every summer. Our second long trip was a very wet and windy tour around Scotland. After the fourth storm we decided to upgrade to a Black Label tent for extra stability in high winds. We bought a Tarra, which became our preferred home away from home.

Subsequent tours took us to the North Cape in Norway, as well as Finland, France, Spain, Denmark, Poland and Portugal. Our trips are five to six months long and we nearly always sleep in the tent. Although we usually camp at campsites, we value the stability and durability of the Tarra. It doesn’t matter what the weather throws at us, we know we will be dry and comfortable. This has become increasingly important for us as extreme weather events are becoming more frequent.

The fact that the Tarra is symmetrical makes choosing a good spot to camp much easier. Whichever end is higher will be the main entrance and the head-end, whilst the other entrance and vestibule stores all our panniers and bags. On hot days we can open both entrances and let the draft cool the tent. We combine the Tarra with a Hilleberg Tarp 10, which we set up to shade the tent and protect the main entrance from rain. This way we can still cook outside even during bad weather and we drag in much less moisture when entering and leaving the tent.

We often get questions and admiring looks from other campers, who wander over to check out our tent. Wherever we will cycle to next, we know we can rely on the Tarra for a safe and comfortable night.

We have just finished our eighth kayak navigation in Greenland. That's another 1000 km and almost 8000 km in total since 2009. 

We were surprised this year to encounter winter conditions there in June. We initially delayed our departure by three weeks and once on the water, patches of ice forced us to change course or even turn around. We often had to wait while the wind and tide cleared the way for us.

This year, we used the new Saivo 3. We have been unconditional fans of the model since 2007. Its wind resistance, two entrances, large interior volume and ventilation are major assets for us. The addition of the new larger vestibule with a pole helps keep the sleeping bags dry when entering and exiting in rainy weather and optimizes the tent’s volume while keeping almost identical dimensions.

In 2007 our first Saivo was red, but it is no longer red today. On the advice of Olennguaq, one of the most experienced polar bear hunters in the country, we were led to reconsider – the color red attracts polar bears! We have gradually removed all of our red expedition equipment, even including Alain’s red mittens. Our new Saivo 3 is now in “sand” color and it blends perfectly with the mineral colors of the Arctic.

I purchased an Allak 2 tent last year for bomber protection in horrendous conditions and this tent did not disappoint. I have owned several other tent brands, but nothing even comes close. The ability to pitch this tent when it is pouring rain and not get the inside wet is amazing. I also love the solid walls on the inside which keeps out blowing dirt and dust.
I had used it a few times but not under conditions that I had recently on a 3 week trip on the Gulkana and Copper Rivers in Alaska. We had great weather for 3-4 days, but then it turned to almost constant pouring rain. The wind was also relentless with steady winds of 20 mph and 40 mph gusts, but your tent with all of the guy lines never even moved an inch with just the standard stakes! Several folks brought along some decent (but arguably older) tents from other brands that leaked like crazy. Two people got so wet that they had to sleep in dry suits wearing all of their clothes with their wet sleeping bags pulled on top of them. It wasn't pretty and thankfully it was only in the 40's and 50's and not 20's and 30's for temp.

I have to give you all a compliment on your tent construction. I have mountain hunted in Alaska with a lightweight tent, but recently went on a mountain goat hunt with winds clocked at 90 mph. We were using my friend’s Red Label Allak, and the tent saved us from a rescue situation. Per the pilot, two other groups had to be rescued by the National Guard, because their tents were shredded by the winds. I intend to purchase a Nallo tent and make it my sole hunting shelter.

I wanted to share a love story with you.
18 years ago I met the man of my dreams. He had a motorcycle and a tent. We had wonderful adventures traveling around together, seeing amazing sites, and falling in love. Our tent protected us in all kinds of weather. Always strong and secure. Eventually I got to have this man as my husband. Two years ago he passed away and my world was shattered. I did not travel the first summer he was gone. No adventures. No amazing things to see. The next summer I knew I had to go. So I got out our beautiful tent, packed the car, and left. It was beyond difficult to do this without him but there was our tent strong and secure, even after 18 years. She is older, some spots worn and thinning and showing her age but the same is true for all of us. She has been a wonderful travel companion and I wanted to thank you for that.
The first picture is of Brian and I about 18 years ago. I was 25 years old. The other picture is me, 43 years old, just last week in Yellowstone. I was on the road for about a week and a half and was able to spend some days in Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

My dad, brother and I just spent seven nights on a fly-in DIY Backpack brown bear hunt on Kodiak Island in my new Kaitum 4.
Our home away from home was perfect for the three of us and all the gear we had to keep out of the rain. We received rain almost every afternoon and evening. We were blessed with not having the crazy heavy rain or winds that the island is known for but we certainly were not able to escape wet ground and steady precipitation. The tent performed flawlessly and condensation was not an issue with the protected vents being able to remain open despite the rain. We harvested a mature boar on the fourth day of the hunt and spent the next couple days packing out and waiting for our ride back to civilization.

I have had my Nammatj 3 GT for 30 years and have used it in Europe and in Australia. My verdict is that this tent is second to none in design, material selection and workmanship. I love every night that I get to spend in it. It is very clear that the designers are experienced campers who know exactly what makes a good tent design. The materials and workmanship have also stood the test of time.
Recently, when I sent the tent to Hilleberg for repairs, this was handled very professionally and to my utmost satisfaction.
How many cheap tents would I have gone through and how much frustration and money would that have cost, had I not chosen my Hilleberg tent a long time ago?

Dear Hilleberg Team and dear outdoor fans,
Last summer we started our vacation in Norway and hiked up to the “Hardangervidda.” In the weeks before it had rained and therefore the ground was very boggy, but we were still able to sleep in the dry every night with our Hilleberg tent (a Nallo from the 1980s that we were allowed to borrow from a friend). Sometimes we even had to pitch the tent in the rain, but as it is so easy to pitch, this worked out well. The nights in the Hardangervidda were special because there seemed to be no other people apart from us – just us and our tent in this vast landscape.
After our hike in Norway, we continued by train toward Sweden (where we had to change our trip a bit due to the weather) and rented a car to drive along the coast. There it was more difficult than expected to find a legal place to pitch the tent - camping is prohibited in many places.
But we still managed to pitch our tent every night. One night we slept surrounded by wild rabbits in a meadow near the beach. A few days later it started raining heavily again and we woke up one morning to find our tent standing in a big puddle. But the two of us inside the tent were dry and felt nothing of the wetness outside - which is quite remarkable for a tent that is almost 40 years old.
We would therefore heartily recommend Hilleberg tents to all hikers and outdoor fans. They weigh very little and are therefore easy to carry. They are also extremely quick to set up and can withstand rain and wind.
We are already looking forward to one day owning our own Hilleberg tent and experiencing new adventures with it.

I started my trip in Arnhem (the Netherlands) and paddled solo to Spain in a sea kayak. 2000+ kilometers mainly on the Atlantic Ocean without any external assistance. I published hours of videos about it on my channel on YouTube. Of course I show and speak quite a lot about your tents in them, since I am really very happy with them! In my opinion the Unna is the very best tent in the world for long distance solo paddlers, I really love it. 
The trip was delayed because of various reasons, but I did it after all! I saw some really serious storms while camping on remote unprotected beaches and little islands, but never suffered not even the slightest damage; the Unna is really a remarkable shelter.

This Keron is an incredible tent that I have tested hard. It has stood up well given the severe weather of high-altitude elk hunting and camping in Salt River Range, Wyoming Range, Wind River Range, Bighorn Mountain, Laramie Range, Bear Lodge, and Sierra Madre. I have used it from 8000 to 11000 feet through all four seasons. It has stood the test of wind, snow, and cold impressively and there is no level of expression that can reflect my appreciation for what you build.

We had a lovely trip last weekend with our first test of the Anaris. Almost no wind, 6 degrees Celsius in the morning and a full moon at night and a beautiful sunrise. The tent is fantastic, super lightweight, well thought out, practical (like always with Hilleberg). It is very easy and quick to set up, surprisingly roomy for sleeping and sitting in, space also for your gear, a real “Kinder Egg.” We were really satisfied and it was “love at first sight.” I will recommend the tent for 3-season use in Norway, especially when you avoid going above the tree line, which is perfect for us. Many thanks to Natalia Fesenko who sewed the tent, the way it is sewn and assembled looks very good.
By the way, I purchased my first Hilleberg tent in 1991, a Nammatj 2 EX, that I have used a lot and is still in use occasionally after 32 years, both in standard and extended versions. Incredibly good quality, and many great experiences with that tent. When the kids started joining our trips, we got a Keron 3 GT in 2002. I recently sold that tent to switch to a Kaitum 3 GT, which I love because of the large inner tent, the low weight compared to the strength, and the ability to completely roll away the vestibules. I have used the Akto for solo trips for the last 10 years, for example during 4 weeks in Ladak/The Himalayas, and I use my Staika for paddling trips along the coast. The Anaris will probably become first choice for hiking trips from May/June to October when we are not walking very high up in the mountains.
When we receive our Saitaris, I will have 6 different Hilleberg tents, all for different purposes. The tents that I have used all have superb quality and functionality. I am convinced that the Saitaris will become our new favorite on winter trips in the mountains with a pulka.
I have periodically tried other well-known tent brands, but I sold these tents after a short while and regretted not getting a Hilleberg from the start. So I am able to compare based on experience and can say that you make the world’s best tents. I don’t think the price is too high when I include in the calculation how much I get for the money, and that you manufacture in Europe. That is also an important reason to stick to Hilleberg. I like the video about the factory in Estonia.

Dear Hilleberg,
A few days ago, I fulfilled a dream of crossing Iceland alone from Myvatn to Thingvellir via the Langjokull glacier. This 500km crossing with skis and pulka was the most difficult experience, but also the most beautiful of my life. I think back to the great frozen fields, the starry skies draped in aurora borealis and the furious storms that came to roar above my head. I remember the strongest moments, the tears of despair and the cries of victory...
In this great waltz of the world, I danced, I screamed, I crossed 500km through a multitude of incredible and varied winter landscapes. It is difficult to write this feeling of accomplishment in a few lines, the emotion is so strong. I lived every moment fully, trying to bear witness to this magnificent but so fragile universe...
Hilleberg supported me in this project by sending me material for my tent, the Tarra. This tent has saved my life several times, during snowstorms or rainstorms with extremely violent winds.

Hi from Peru (currently!)
I’ve had my Nallo 2 since 2009, when I bought it for my last Himalaya trip. Since then it’s always been my “go to“ when I know I’m going to be facing tough conditions. It’s been superb.
And for the last three months, I’ve been traveling through Central and South America on my trip due to end until March 2023. By the time this trip ends I will have spent around 100 more nights in the tent.
I have attached a picture of my current location with the Pacific Ocean in the background, just to make you a little bit jealous :)

During December 2022 myself and two friends completed a traverse of the Drakensberg mountains in South Africa an exceptional trip of 240 km over 12 days with 10500 m elevation gain a tough but very rewarding trip. What a great adventure it has been with exceptional people, gear and some very special views of the mountains as shown in this photo of a special sunrise before the start of our day.
The Akto that I used and Nallo 3 (used by my friends) were great during the trip and provided excellent shelter for the varying weather conditions in the mountains. We want to thank Hilleberg for the great tents, attention to detail and providing peace of mind during the trip.

We started our White Ribbon with an old dome tent that we had borrowed. The tent wasn’t so roomy and the inner tent had to be put up before the outer tent which made it inconvenient when we had to set it up and take it down every day. Therefore, we were thinking of getting a new tent. But it wasn’t until we tried to pitch the tent in a storm and woke up to the tent bowing inwards and three out of five tent poles were broken did we decide it was time for new tent...
The next day we contacted Hilleberg about getting a new tent. The customer service was great and through some luck and the goodwill of the locals at Valsjöbyn we were able to get a new tent the same day! We wanted this tent to be bigger and to have the ability to set up the outer and inner tent together. It had to be strong enough to withstand harsh weather conditions.
We bought Keron 4 GT. Maybe a bit overkill for two people but we haven’t regretted it once! The extra room was so nice, especially when you’re out for so many days. The extra comfort made a big difference. We could put all our gear in the vestibule, which we dug out so we could stand in it, which made it easy to put on our gear in the morning. Pitching the tent was super easy and could easily be done by one person. Putting it down was as easy as putting it up. We used the sled bag so we didn’t even have to remove the tent poles. The tent made the rest of the trip a breeze and we couldn’t be more happy with it!

As a UIAGM Mountain Guide and IPGA Expedition Polar Guide I have been working, guiding and exploring the polar regions since 1993. I have 30 years’ experience of Arctic and Antarctic expeditions. Living and surviving more than 2.5 years in tents in polar ice and snow I have used and tested many different tents, but since I first used a Hilleberg Keron 4 GT in Antarctica in 2012 I never want to miss the “Rolls Royce” among polar tents again any more. If you have to hunker down for several days and nights in a high-altitude storm on Mt. Vinson or are trapped in a brutal katabatic storm of over 100 km/h in windswept Queen Maud Land you learn to know what difference a Hilleberg tent makes. A Hilleberg Keron 4 GT is an oasis of comfort and security in the life-threatening wilderness of Antarctica. It is easy to pitch even in windy conditions by yourself. You can make yourself really comfortable inside it and make the tent a little cozy heaven to stay inside. The construction, the fabric and the material are a marvel of technology and are state of the art. I am absolutely convinced that you just can´t get any better polar-proof tent on this planet! It is a good feeling, to start on a polar expedition with a Hilleberg. It is comforting to know that as long as you find a safe spot to camp, you can be sure the tent won´t let you down. We the "Zander clan," also refer to ourselves as "Team Full Value" due to our habit of making days stretch into night on family adventures. Just as well we always have a nice "home" – A Hilleberg tent to crawl into.
Logan, 7 and Rowan, 5 have been on countless bike packing, backpacking, desert and high alpine trips including snow camping. Their favorite part of each day is water play at camp and hanging in the tent.
Mom and Dad love the reliability and versatility of our Kaitum 4 "Big Red," Anjan 2, Niak 2. They each have a purpose in the quiver, according to gear-hound Tim. 
One of our favorite trips was riding from home in Summit County 360 mi to Durango, CO over 2 weeks. One magical night we camped at 13,000 ft on Imogene Pass. The tent was amazing. We felt like we were camping on the moon. (See attached photos).

I can’t rave enough about the quality of Hilleberg tents and also your customer service. I used a Nallo 3 from 1997 until 2017 (still have it) and bought the Nammatj 3 for its space. Both tents have been used in all kinds of weather and altitude, over in Europe and now here in the US, and never have failed in storm, rain, snow, or the heat of a desert.
Snow is already falling here in the Upper Mississippi Valley but in a few hours we start for another adventure. This time we will explore the Ozark Mountains in Missouri and Arkansas. The tent is packed and we know we can trust this piece of gear again.

We've used the Anjan 3 through the John Muir Trail in California. At 4 lbs. between the two people, it averaged a modest 2 lbs. per person, which was plenty light for such a sturdy tent.
The bright red color really stands out and makes it very easy to find the tent when you're tired and it's getting a little dark (This is our favorite feature). The vestibule is plenty big enough to cook, organize gear and provide shade for those times we needed shade from the sun. The Anjan 3 strikes a balance between blocking the wind and proper ventilation with the different setup configurations. We experienced no condensation even when the temperatures ranged in the low 30's Fahrenheit. Moreover, it had a comfortable breeze during the warmer nights. We had no problems pitching this tent in rocky areas, it can be really sturdy with only 4 pegs in an emergency if you can't find enough stones. Having said that, this tent is super easy to setup compared to other tents we found on the trail. One of the criticisms we found on reviews of SilNylon tents is the saggingthat happens during rain and temperature change. Hilleberg Silicon Coating is different than cheaper tents and we did not find ourselves adjusting the lines etc. It was really assuring that we had a proper Hilleberg tent that could handle most of the puzzles mother nature can throw!

Dear Hilleberg Family,
17 years ago (age 21) I discovered the Hilleberg tents and immediately fell in love with the quality and passion with which you make your tents. We had the opportunity to buy a Nallo 3 GT in may 2005 and have made countless beautiful memories with it. The tent never failed us. Last summer we introduced our kids to hiking and camping in the Swedish mountains. Despite continuous storm, rain and a temperature as low as 2C° it was an amazing experience for all of us. However the old Nallo 3 GT proved to be to small for the four of us. Today we bought our second Hilleberg which will be our next best friend on our adventures, the Allak 3. The aim of the Year Outdoors project was to spend exactly one calendar year hiking in the most remote areas of northern Scandinavia. After 18 months of planning and preparations I began my journey in August 2019 from the shores of the Arctic Sea in northern Norway.

The year I spent in the Nordic wilderness was an unforgettable one. As both mental and physical challenge it was something I had never faced before and I’m glad that I was able to overcome it. More importantly, looking back I remember the journey as a profound nature experience. Although I spent almost nine months alone on this trip, I never felt myself lonely. The nature always kept me company in some form or another. From the beginning to the end of this long journey, I felt that nature really took me under her wing as one of her own.
Finally, after 2500 kilometers of walking and skiing I finished the journey the same place I started it 366 days before. During the whole trip, I had a Hilleberg tent with me to provide me reliable shelter when camping outdoors was not an option. In every storm I felt lucky to own such a quality equipment.

We have been using our Staika now for a week and I wanted to tell you that we are very happy with it! It feels very solid and the inner tent is spacious. We learn everyday quicker to set up the tent and how to ventilate the best way. We really think this tent is perfect for long distance cycle tourers who are making as long and demanding trips as we do. Hi Hilleberg,
I wanted to share a few photos with our Keron 3 GT during our 75 day long adventure through the Swedish mountain chain. It was 1330 km. We started in Grövelsjön, Dalarna and ended at the Three-country Cairn where the Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian borders meet. The night photos were taken on very cold nights, -32 Celsius, one of them with strong Northern lights. During our adventure we encountered various weather of course - 36 Celsius at the coldest, strong winds but of course beautiful weather as well! We choose the Keron 3 GT due to its quality and robustness to bad weather. When you are out for 75 days you don't want to worry about your gear. We were able to focus on enjoying the trip and handle all the challenges on the way, always know that your high quality gear would keep us safe and warm. Thanks, Emma and Gustav

Hello Hilleberg, When Roberto and I walked across Lake Baikal, we bet on a Keron 4 GT - and it was the right decision! The winter in Siberia can throw a lot at you, especially if you are in the middle of an ice surface without protection. It's good to have a bomb-proof, portable home that also offers luxurious space and clever details. The materials and functions of the Keron are excellent and since we pulled the tent in a pulka, the weight was no problem either. With a few ice screws and the Abalakov technique we were prepared for any wind and the two vestibules were the garage for the pulkas - very practical. Camping on clear, kilometer-deep water is an impressive experience and with Hilleberg equipment a safe and comfortable adventure. The area was Falls Creek Montana near Monitor Mountain in Mid-November. I was with my long-time expedition buddy, Mark Siks. We ferried two packs to camp, essentially making 3 trips for one hike to our base camp for our deer hunt. The second day we were there the wind was blowing about 60 mph and trees had fallen and blocked the trail on our way back to camp after the hunt that day. It blew all night long and our Hilleberg’s withstood the challenge like champs. It is always good to know your camp will be in place after a long day of hunting in rugged terrain.
